about

Having cut his teeth as the frontman of rock-and-soul bands from the main stage at Afropunk Brooklyn to the Thomas and Mack Center opening for Bruno Mars in Las Vegas, Singletary is crafting a new sound marked by his solo debut single "High Horse" (mp3 attached)

Laidback and raw, with influences from the nostalgic sweet spot carved by his rap heroes like Hieroglyphics and Andre 3000, “High Horse” represents a departure from Singletary’s signature belt and croon. It inhabits a kaleidoscope of early 2000s feel-good classics from Jazzy Pha (Ciara, “Goodies”) with a ‘90s West Coast bounce and an OutKast flow and storytelling that well positions it as a 2020’s summer anthem - thanks in large part to guitarist/producer Charles Myers who has worked with Yebba, Mark Ronson, and The Roots.

“You ever walk away from a disagreement with someone you love and hours later all the clever clap-backs come to you and you start really letting them know how you feel...even though it’s just you in the mirror?” Singletary explains. “Well, that’s what this song is. It’s saying ‘I love you but you need to know a few thangs...But i love you tho...”

lyrics

Oh I Betchu you love the way they chase yo tail
And I bet you laugh each day they shoot they fail
Oh you up there on your high horse
Thinking it’s my loss
Forgettin' who I was
I had to let you know what the time was
Let you know what the time was

For many moons
I'd win or lose
Based on your place your time
I’d spin a tune
From 12 to noon
Creating space to fly
But stuck up in yo vision
Presented a split decision
I made a move that gave a shiver to your spine
Now all this would be fine if I had all of ine together
Perfection it takes time
There's many storms for us to weather
Til it gets better
By what measure
That may change
In shape or form or name
But what you think I am must never be my aim
I’ll speak it plain
Each day I’m conflicted, different decisions
Cloudin my vision.
But if you is my misses,
How we gon fix this, you complicit too
I’m here to show you different views
Remember I’m a different dude
I’m buildin so that we can kiss the moon
So fix your tune

And Baby,
There's no need to worry
You know that I love ya
Down to the last drop
And I am not gonna stop

Oh I Betchu you love the way they chase yo tail
And I bet you laugh each day they shoot and they fail
Oh you up there on your high horse
Thinking it’s my loss
Forgetting who I was
I had to let you know what the time was
Let you know what the time was

These things don't come easy baby girl
I know you try and try to change the whole wide world
But people are people
We each got our evils
Can’t you see
So won’t you let me breathe
Oh let me be me

Won't waste my time tryna get what you got
Cuz honestly you wantin me to be what I’m not
Baby believe it or not
Eventually this whole plot gone pan out til I stand out
As he who is not
To be questioned or doubted
You wanna know all about it
I need to know that you about it
No negative energy round here
Went searching for peace and I found it
No matter the valleys or mountains
Just know Ima pour every ounce in
If that ain’t enough you can bounce then
Just hit me back, let me now if you get it
These typa things will Fester no Uncle if you let it
I don’t want you to regret it when it’s all said and done,
But if you know you know
You know I’m still the one

And Baby
There's no need to worry
Ya know that I love ya
Down to the last drop
And I am not gonna stop

Oh I Betchu you love the way they chase yo tail
And I bet you laugh each day they shoot and they fail
Oh you up there on your high horse
Thinking it’s my loss
Forgetting who I was
I had to let you know what the time was
Let you know what the time was
